Here Are The Details For Implementing The Data Today!

Medium Tail Keywords

First off... If you aren't reading Brian Dean's Blog over at Backlinko y'all need to turn off the YouTube Cat Video Marathons and head on over there for the greatest source of information on SEO and the cutting edge of SEO research. He is a huge advocate for medium tail keywords and he has good reason to be. Medium Tail Keywords are EXTREMELY powerful for a few reasons.

The first reason is that most content marketers assume they will never rank for these terms so the competition is actually pretty low. The second reason is that because of RankBrain, Google is moving away from multiple small categories to larger "big box" keywords that cover hundreds and hundreds of long tail keywords. The final reason is that to rank for a medium tail keyword you HAVE to make incredible content that will stand the test of time which means that if you put in the effort to make that kind of content, you are creating a competitive advantage over everyone else who isn't willing to put in the hard work.

So In short, medium tail keywords are the way to go and they are easy to find. Simply hop on Google Keyword Tool and plug in the topic you would like to cover for example, "keto diet." Look at what keywords google recommends and try to pick one that is 2-3 words long and gets a fair amount of traffic (traffic varies from niche to niche but you want a keyword that has decent traffic for the recommendations Google shows) so for example, rather than go for a long tail keyword like "keto diet grilled cheese sandwhich recipe" go for "keto diet recipes" and make the best page on the internet for it.

Long Form Content

Alright now you know why medium tail keywords are awesome but how do you rank for such a difficult keyword? The secret is long form evergreen content! Rather than try and churn out blog posts every week with average quality targeting a long tail keyword, instead try and make 1 page that is the absolute best possible piece of content for a medium tail keyword and gobble up 1000's of long tail keywords for years to come.

Quality Is King, not Content. Make the highest quality content possible and that starts with having fantastic design, amazing information, great research, great sources and when you make content that meets all of those requirements you will naturally have much longer content. As Neil Patel showed, only 1% of blog posts have over 3000 words and yet those posts get 36% of the backlinks!

So to implement this NOW stop trying to meet some arbitrary amount of blog posts per week and sit down and make a single piece of content that you are deeply proud of. Go make some incredible high quality LONG content you lil content marketer you!

3 Click Thru Rate Hacks That Increase Page Title Clicks By Up To 31% [Woo!]

Now that you know what markets to target (medium tail keywords) and what kind of products to sell (high quality long form evergreen content) let's get to jedi mind tricks of persuasion to get in good with the marketplace owner (Google).

What does Google want? Well they are a business so... MONEY! Okay now how does Google get money? By getting people to click on ads. Now how does Google attract people to see those ads? They rank the best content for various questions. How does Google know your content is good? Clicks, Dwell Time, Bounce Rates and Votes from other reputable sites (i.e. Backlinks and Social Shares).

So by creating high quality content around a medium tail keyword that allows Google to save time by recommending the same content for multiple questions and creating long content that increases dwell time and decreases bounce rate you are already 90% ahead of the competition, but with just a few copywriting sales techniques you can also improve your clicks as well.

The first and easiest one to implement is the power of the [brackets]! Yup by simply adding brackets at the end of your Page Title, Surprisingly your CTR will go up! The best way to implement this is to add whatever type of content you have created in brackets to the end like [Case Study], [Report] and [Infographic].

The second hack to implement is adding Power Words to your page titles. Power words are data proven emotional words that have been proven to increase clicks and create an emotional reaction. Noah Kagan has done all the heavy lifting for us and you can see a list of fantastic power words for free over at his blog for his company Sumo which gives an AMAZING software that will help you grow your email list and make better content.

The final trick is adding specific numbers to your page titles. Buzzfeed, for all its faults, got a few things right and one of those is numbers get dem clicks yo.

Whenever you can, try and incorporate numbers into your title and NEVER write them out always use the actual number ( i.e. Use "3" not Three) and try to have a very specific number as well if you have something quantifiable in your article, for example, don't tell someone "How To Increase Your Conversion Rates" tell them "3 Tricks That You Can Use That Boosted My Conversion Rates By 13.1%".

By implementing these simple changes, you will start getting more clicks and subsequently higher rankings in Google and more over your rankings will continue to improve as RankBrain continues to become a bigger ranking factor over time.

The "Free Market" Approach To Content Creation

In This Video I Explain In Detail The Fundamentals of SEO and The "Free Market" Approach To Content

In a nutshell, The "Free Market" Approach to Content Creation is about having a paradigm shift about what Google is trying to become. Google wants to be the Free Market of ideas and if you imagine it like that it will make your content creation MUCH easier. If you treat each keyword as a different market Google is ranking which "store" or website is the best for that particular market. So if you see what Google has already identified as the best "store" you can replicate what they are doing right and then improve it further just like starting a real business. Then you simply promote it aggressively! I would recommend using tools like BuzzSumo & Moz to see where the other "stores" get their promotion from by checking out their backlinks and then see if you can get a link there too!

Conclusion

It's amazing looking back at all of this work and seeing everything I have been studying for over 8 years all consolidated down into one place like this. I know this content will put you leagues above your competition and make you one of the best content marketers around if you stick with it.
